What a Class Looks Like
Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, then moves through footwork, big reaching movements, punching combinations on pads and bags, and drills for balance, coordination, and posture. We often add voice and breathing work, because Parkinson's can affect speech as well as movement. Coaches keep the energy warm and patient, chairs and support are always within reach, and nobody is ever rushed.
Why Boxing-Style Training for Parkinson's?
Non-contact boxing programs have become one of the most popular forms of exercise for people with Parkinson's, and the approach is research-supported: studies point to benefits for balance, agility, gait, posture, and overall mood and confidence. Rise & Strike is exercise, not a medical treatment or cure — it works best alongside the plan your own doctor has set. If you are unsure whether it is right for you, come watch a class or give us a call and we'll talk it through.
A Community, Not Just a Workout
One of the most powerful parts of Rise & Strike is the people in the room. Participants encourage each other, coaches know everyone by name, and spouses, adult children, and caregivers are welcome to come along and even join in. Facing Parkinson's can feel isolating; this class turns exercise into something to look forward to.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Rise & Strike Boxing class like?
A typical class is non-contact and low-pressure. You'll warm up, then work through footwork, big reaching movements, punching combinations on pads and heavy bags, balance and coordination drills, and often voice and posture work. Coaches move at your pace and cheer you on. Classes meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 AM.
Is it safe? Will I get hit or have to spar?
It is completely non-contact. There is no sparring and no getting hit — you punch pads and bags, never a person. Coaches watch closely, offer chairs and support when needed, and adjust every exercise to what each participant can do safely that day.
Do I need boxing experience or to be fit already?
No. Most people who start have never boxed before. Every movement is taught step by step and scaled to your level, whether you are early in your Parkinson's journey or have been managing it for years.
Can boxing-style exercise really help with Parkinson's symptoms?
Non-contact boxing programs are widely used and research-supported as a form of exercise for people with Parkinson's, with studies pointing to benefits for balance, agility, gait, posture, and mood. It is exercise, not a medical treatment or cure, and it works best alongside the care plan from your own doctor. We are always happy to talk with you and your family about whether it is a good fit.
