Beginner-Friendly BJJ in Riverside

Most of our adult students started with zero martial arts experience. Our structured curriculum builds skills progressively — you'll learn fundamental positions, escapes, sweeps, and submissions before advancing to more complex techniques. Every class includes drilling, technique instruction, and live training in a supportive environment.

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu & Wrestling

In addition to traditional Gi training, we offer No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling classes. No-Gi focuses on grappling without the traditional uniform, emphasizing body control, takedowns, and submissions applicable to MMA and real-world self-defense. Youth No-Gi/Wrestling is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to start adult BJJ in Riverside?

No experience is needed. The majority of our adult students started as complete beginners. Our curriculum is designed to build skills progressively from day one.

What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi BJJ?

Gi BJJ uses a traditional uniform (kimono) that allows grip-based techniques. No-Gi uses athletic clothing (rash guard and shorts) and focuses on body control and wrestling-style grappling. We offer both at Flow Academy.

How often should I train as a beginner?

We recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week. This gives your body time to adapt while building technique consistently. As you progress, many students train 4-5 times per week.

Is BJJ a good workout?

Absolutely. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a full-body workout that builds strength, flexibility, cardio endurance, and mental toughness. Many students report significant improvements in fitness within the first few months.
