Getting Ready for the Mat on Tournament Day

Youth BJJ Competition Prep is an extra class on Saturday mornings for youth students who want to compete. Weekday classes build the technique. Saturday is where students practice using it the way a tournament asks them to: on the clock, under the rules, with a partner who is trying just as hard.

  • Tournament-style rounds, so a real match never feels like the first time
  • The rules: how points are scored, what is allowed, and how a match is won
  • Strategy: a simple game plan, and what to do when it is not working
  • Conditioning to stay sharp from the first round to the last
  • Win or lose, how to handle the day with good sportsmanship

Who It Is For

This class is for kids and youth jiu-jitsu students (ages 7 and up) who are thinking about competing, or already do. Most students train in our weekday youth classes and add Saturday mornings on top. If you are not sure whether your child is ready for competition training, just ask. A coach will give you an honest answer and help you decide together.

The Same Flow Coaching, With a Goal on the Calendar

Competition is never the only reason to train at Flow. The point is still confidence, good habits, and steady progress. Competition prep simply gives students a clear goal to work toward, and parents a clear picture of how their child handles pressure, effort, and a little nervousness. Kids leave Saturday class knowing more about the sport and more about themselves.

What happens in a competition prep class?

Students practice tournament-style rounds, learn how matches are scored and what the rules allow, work on a simple game plan for each match, and build the conditioning to stay sharp from the first round to the last. Coaches keep the room supportive, and every student works at their own level.

Does my child have to compete to join?

No. Competition prep is built around getting ready to compete, but the goal is the same as every class at Flow: confidence, good habits, and steady progress. A coach can help your family decide when, or whether, a first tournament makes sense.
