LITTLE NINJAS
IN RIVERSIDE, CA
Your child's very first martial arts class, built for ages 3 to 6. Movement games, listening, and taking turns. The goal is confidence and structure, not pressure — and their first class is free.
What Little Ninjas Actually Is
Little Ninjas is the first stage of the kids path at Flow Academy in Riverside, California, and it is designed for exactly one age group: three to six year olds. That matters more than it sounds. A four year old does not learn the way a nine year old learns, so this class is not a smaller version of the older kids' class — it is its own thing, with its own pace.
What happens on the mat is movement games, falling and rolling drills, body awareness, partner trust, and a lot of practice at the two hardest skills at this age: following an instruction, and waiting your turn. Technique comes later. Right now we are building the child who can stand on a line, look at a coach, and try something new without needing to be perfect at it.
- Ages 3-6 only — your child is with kids their own size and their own attention span
- Movement games, falling drills, and posture development come before anything else
- Respect, listening, and mat awareness are taught from day one
- The goal is confidence and structure, not pressure
- Parents are welcome to watch from the side, every class
- Free trial class — no commitment, no gear required
What Parents Actually See Change
Most parents come to us for one of four things, and they are all the same muscle: focus, listening, confidence, and coordination.
None of that requires your child to be athletic, outgoing, or already "good at" anything. Shy kids do very well here. So do the ones with a lot of energy.
- Focus. A Little Ninjas class is a series of short, clear tasks. Over weeks, a child who could hold attention for thirty seconds starts holding it for a whole drill — and that carries off the mat.
- Listening. Every game has a rule, and the rule comes from a coach. Following it is the actual skill being practiced, dressed up as fun.
- Confidence. Small wins, out loud, in front of the group. A child who was hiding behind your leg in week one is usually the one demonstrating for the class by week six.
- Coordination. Rolling, balancing, falling safely, moving on both sides of the body. This is the age when that wiring is laid down, and mat time is one of the best places to do it.
What a First Class Looks Like
Come about 10 minutes early so your little one has a minute to look around the room before anything starts. A coach will greet them by name, introduce them to a couple of the other kids, and walk them onto the mat.
From there it is a warm-up, some movement games, a falling or rolling drill, and a partner activity. Coaches stay close and adjust as they go. If your child needs to sit on the edge and watch for the first five minutes, that is completely normal and completely fine — we have never met a three year old who did it any other way.
You do not need to sign anything on the mat, and nobody is going to push your family into a decision at the door. The trial is free so you can find out whether your child likes it before you think about anything else.
What to Wear and Bring
Comfortable athletic clothing and a water bottle. That is the whole list. No uniform is needed for the free trial. A gi is available once your child enrolls, but it is not required for the first visit and it is not included in the membership price.
Where Little Ninjas Leads
Little Ninjas is stage one. Around age seven, children move up into Kids Jiu-Jitsu (ages 7-9), where real technique is introduced with close coaching, and later into Youth BJJ for ages 10-14. Along the way children earn stripes on their belt for steady progress, attendance, and effort, so there are frequent milestones to celebrate. You can see the whole path on our curriculum page.
We serve families across Riverside and the Inland Empire, including Canyon Crest, Orangecrest, Mission Grove, La Sierra, Arlington, and Magnolia Center, as well as Corona, Moreno Valley, and Jurupa Valley. Looking for an adapted path? Our Flow Limitless program offers self-defense and fitness for youth with autism, Down syndrome & ADHD, ages 6-17, launching August 2026.
