Too Stiff to Start? Questions We Hear Before Active Fit 55+

October 26, 2026

Four adults in their late fifties to seventies laugh together in black Flow rashguards while a coach talks with them in profile.

It’s the last week of October, the mornings have finally cooled off, and the call we get most about Active Fit 55+ starts the same way: “I’m too stiff for that.” Then comes the story. A knee, a shoulder, twenty years behind a desk. We’ve heard every version, and our answer rarely changes. Stiff is where people start. It isn’t a reason to wait.

First, the plain facts. Riverside classes are paused during our move to 10081 Indiana Ave, Suite A-1, so there’s no class to walk into this week. If you want us to reach you when that changes, join the Riverside interest list or call or text (951) 337-3781. If you can’t wait, our Indio academy is running classes normally.

What Active Fit 55+ Actually Is

It’s a 45-minute strength, mobility, and balance class for adults 55 and up, led by Coach Zaide, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10. There’s no rolling and no contact, and nobody is trying to win anything. Nobody wears a gi either. You train in comfortable clothes and socks on the mat, with the room setting the pace.

Nobody Expects You to Touch Your Toes

The warm-up is slow on purpose. Hips and shoulders loosen first, then the work builds from there. Any move that’s hard for you has a smaller version, and the coach will show it. Using a wall or a chair isn’t a workaround. It’s part of how the class is set up.

The Questions We Hear Before the First Class

“Can I get down on the floor and back up?” Some of the movement work is about exactly that, and you can lean on a chair or the wall until you don’t need to. “Will I be the oldest one in the room?” Probably not. The group runs from the fifties into the seventies and beyond, and they tend to know each other. “What if I need to stop?” Then you stop, sit, and have some water. Come back in when you’re ready. Nobody on our staff is keeping count.

See Your Doctor, Then Come Anyway

As with starting anything new, check with your own doctor first, especially if you have a joint or heart concern. Active Fit 55+ is exercise instruction, not therapy, and we’re glad to explain exactly what a class involves so you can bring that to your appointment.

What It Costs

Active Fit 55+ is $150 a month for the two-day schedule.
