The Discount Question That Gets Its Own Phone Number

August 10, 2026

“Do you do anything for military?” is a question we hear at the front desk almost every August, usually from someone still in scrubs from a night shift, or wearing a UCR lanyard they haven’t taken off since class let out. The answer is yes.

We take 10% off memberships for Military, Veterans, current college students, and Law Enforcement. It’s not something we put on a sign out front, so most people find out about it the same way everyone else does — by asking.

A different number, on purpose

Our main line, (951) 337-3781, handles everything: schedules, questions, booking your free first class. The discount runs through a separate line, (951) 500-7191. Call or text it, tell us your situation, and we’ll walk you through it at the front desk. There’s nothing to bring and nothing to prove over the phone — just a conversation before you start.

Why this question shows up more in August

UCR and RCC are both back in session this week, and a lot of the students walking through our doors are doing the same math — does a jiu-jitsu class actually fit between a lab schedule and a part-time job. We’re hearing the same question from first responders and healthcare workers, whose rotating schedules flip from days to nights every few weeks, and who are looking at a new fall rotation and wondering if training still fits. Adults BJJ meets Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 PM, which is late enough that a shift ending at five or six still gets you to the mat with time to spare.

What doesn’t come with you onto the mat

Here’s the part that has nothing to do with the 10%. Once you’re training, rank doesn’t transfer. Job title doesn’t transfer. We’ve had a battalion chief and a barista bow in ten feet apart before class starts, and by the time drilling starts, neither one is thinking about who was who. Someone who ran a squad overseas and someone who just finished their first week of college classes start in the exact same spot — a white belt, next to every other white belt in the room, learning the same first move. Nobody outranks anybody here.

That reset is part of why a lot of veterans and first responders keep coming back after the first class. For one hour, a few nights a week, nobody’s in charge of anything and nobody’s taking orders. Everybody in the room is just training.

Coach Carlos Miller has run this mat for almost three decades, and Adults BJJ is built for whoever walks in that night — discount or not. Your first class is always free either way, so there’s no reason to sort out any of this before you’ve stepped on the mat once.

If you want to ask about the 10% specifically, call or text (951) 500-7191. For everything else — schedule, directions to our Riverside academy, general questions — reach us at (951) 337-3781. We’d love to see you Monday or Wednesday at 6:30.
